Life Realizations: Work and The Abundant Life
Try browsing my blog and you’ll find the tag word “work” or “workaholic” in the many posts I’ve made through the years. The posts became rampant when I started working in the corporate world.
Come to think of it, a lot of questions pops-up especially when you get to see things on a different perspective. Some of the questions I am dwelling right now are -
Has my work become my life?
Has it affected my lifestyle?
Am I still experiencing the abundant life?
The Idea of Work and Workaholic
I’m working more than 60 hours per week ( let’s just say, on a minimal scale) and this includes doing reports, marketing strategies, discussing important issues at work and all those stuff that revolves around it.
I’m also workaholic, if you find me silently clicking my keyboards as if there’s no tomorrow, definitely I’m toxic and is beating up deadlines to close the ramps.
If you find me always on the go and does not greet you or even a sly smile, definitely there are a lot of things on my mind while walking.
Working to provide for myself is not bad, being workaholic is. But how can you differentiate or divide the two when your workload is challenging?
At this point in time, I am more considering of weighing things down if I still want to continue working or pursue other dreams. I’ve been asking my auntie, who is a cross-cultural missions to give me sites for training and getting more information about missions and mobilization.
A Workaholic’s Lifestyle
You might probably think that a workaholic’s lifestyle is bad. No, it’s not! I still have time to mingle with friends and co-workers and spend some time at home.
Well, the only downside I guess is that I usually spend it online most of the time. Toinkz!
I know I promised to lessen my internet surfing nowadays, but what can you get with an unlimited broadband? Besides, it’s dangerous going out late at night in this side of town. It gives me the creeps!
But no matter how we see it, I’m still not doing what are more important things other than being online and work. And that’s where everything becomes different and if I may use the word – meaningless!
Missing Out the Important Things In Life
The bible says that God gave us this life to experience it to the full. And it definitely does not include work only. He has given us the means (financially and materially) to enjoy the things that we want to do.
He also gave us time to do things that we find important. I guess my problem is all about time-management. I want to do so much with work that I left enjoying the other half of it in spending time of the things I love to do.
The parable of the talents can also be incorporated with time. How we use our time as a resources determines how beneficial and worthwhile our life is as a whole. And we will give an account to our Creator on how we spent it, what we did that is of eternal value and of greater impact to other people.
I know I’m missing this out. Or perhaps, I’m not focusing on this important aspect in my life right now. It’s true that our priorities change when we grow old, but I don’t think the principles of life doesn’t, and what I mean by that is that I should refocus my energy, time and skills to those that I am not only passionate about, but of what God really wants me to do – For Him.
